If I say that there is no forest area in Noakhali called Noakhali. This means that Noakhali is the only district in Bangladesh which does not have a city of its own name. Noakhali district town is known as Maijdi. When the main town was lost in the riverbed, the district headquarters was shifted to Maijdi in 1950. The ancient name of Noakhali district was Bhulua. The original name of Noakhali Sadar Police Station is Sudharam. In 180, a huge canal was dug for agricultural development, then the area came to be known as "Noakhali" and in 18 the name Noakhali was officially used instead of Bhuluar. Among the places of interest in Sadar upazila of the district is the traditional district Jame Mosque.
